What We Know

Mary Coffin was born at Haverhill, Massachusetts, on 20 February 1645, a daughter of Tristram Coffin. [1] In about 1662 she married Nathaniel Starbuck, son of Edward and Katherine Starbuck. [1] [2]

John Richardson, an Englishman who visited the island in 1701, wrote that the islanders esteemed her "as a Judge among them, for little of Moment was done without her". [3]

She died on the 13th day of the 9th month, 1717. [2] John, Perry and Patrick Long descend from her son Nathaniel Starbuck Jr., born in 1668. [2]
